What are Boveda humidity packs and why is it superior?

There are many humidifiers available. However, Boveda is the only patented 2-way humidity control solution in the market. This means that Boveda packs can remove and add moisture to the air at the same time. Therefore requiring no maintenance at all. In contrast, all other available products provide one-way humidity control, exclusively either removing or adding moisture to the air. Therefore increasing maintenance required.

What levels of Boveda humidity packs are there?

Boveda is available in four different RH levels—65, 69, 72 and 75 percent—allowing consumers to choose their desired humidity level based on the type of cigars they smoke and/or the moisture-barrier qualities of the humidor. For instance, a humidor that doesn't hold moisture very well may need a higher humidity level just to compensate for the higher moisture loss.

How do I use the Boveda humidity packs?

Simply place the correct number of Boveda packets inside your humidor to maintain a precise relative humidity. 

As a guide, use one Boveda packet for every 25 cigars the humidor can hold. For example, a 50-count humidor would need two Boveda packets; a 75-count humidor would need three Boveda packets, and so on. The only exception to this guideline is for a small 25-count humidor where a minimum of two packets is still needed due to surface area and volume. REPLACE PACKETS EVERY 2 MONTHS.

Can I place the Boveda packets directly on top of my cigars?

Yes. In contrast to all refillable humidifiers, Boveda can be placed directly in contact with your cigars without any risk to them whatsoever. Since Boveda packs have 2-way humidity control, cigars that are in direct contact will never get over-humidified.

Do I need to activate the Boveda packets?

No. Boveda packets are ready to use when you receive them. All you need to do is take each Boveda packet out of the clear over-wrap and simply place them inside your desktop humidor and you’re done. No maintenance whatsoever. 

What RH level should I choose?

Choosing the correct Boveda RH level depends on two factors—(a) the effectiveness of your humidor, and (b) your own personal taste. If you smoke cigars from different countries of origin, our recommendation is to maintain your humidor at 68 to 69%, as this will be a very good level for all types of cigars and blends. Therefore, in order to compensate for the rate of moisture loss that occurs in wood humidors, you will need to choose the Boveda 72% just to maintain the desired level of 68 to 69%. In non-wood humidors, on the other hand, such as hard plastic or Tupperware, the Boveda packets will maintain the RH at exactly the level stated on the front of each packet.
